Community School Touring Program

Community School Touring Program

The School Touring Program is funded by the department of Education and administered by the Yukon Art Society.  The goal of this program is to expose children to types of performance art that they may not regularly encounter and to broaden the experience and background knowledge of students.

Who can Apply:
The program welcomes proposals from any performance discipline, music to juggling, storytelling to dance.  The program is open to performance groups from in and outside Yukon and will also accept proposals from Yukon presenters interested in joint presentations.

Selection Criteria:
The Department of Education feel that performing arts fits well with the Fine Arts Curriculum in public schools and also enhances other curriculum areas and goals of the education system.  For this reason, preference is given to performances that have an educational component.  (ie. Study guide, curricular ties, hands-on opportunity).  Additionally, because Whitehorse school children have so many wonderful opportunities to see a wide variety of performances, rural schools are given first priority in the program.

How to Apply:
Application packages are available from Marlene Collins, Program Coordinator, Community School Touring Program.
