Nicole Edwards and Andrea McColeman - Songwriting

Discover your muse and develop your songwriting skills with Nicole Edwards and Andrea McColeman These local songwriter-recording artists will work with you to explore lyrics, song structure and melody and accompaniment.
Nicole and Andrea will work with groups (Nicole with intermediate, Andrea with primary students) to learn about the different parts of a song, and some techniques for writing poetry/lyrics.  Students will then be guided through a brainstorming session coming up with lyrics, either as a group or individually.
The next step will be to bring the song to life with melody and accompaniment. Each potential song gets a session with Nicole and Andrea together -Nicole helps construct the melody (in some cases singing it for the really shy ones) while Andrea works with different instruments to get the “feel” or “mood” of the song and put the musical accompaniment together. We record the end result and the class/group/child gets a digital version of their very own song.
This session includes a short performance by Nicole and Andrea, with questions and answers.
The artists are happy to go to communities and install themselves in your school for a couple of days Please be aware that 2 artists are involved in this program.
Andrea has a number of other programs she could run while at the school including intro to marimba, discovering djembe drums, crash course piano lessons and coaching students for a performance. See Artist in the School website or catalogue for details of these.
