Learn to Play the Violin /Fiddle with Katie Avery

This program is meant for schools trying to establish a fiddle or violin program. This class teaches the fundamentals of playing using simple songs from the Zav RT’s Fiddleworks book, Joanne Martin’s Magic Carpet for violin, and Suzuki Violin School Volume 1. Tunes will be chosen according to t he age and level of the students.

Grade Suitability:

Any, but recommend 1 or 2 adjacent grades at a time

Minimum 1 hour per grade level being taught, minimum 5 hours total instruction

Fiddles (either from the school or from the students)

Katie Avery

Katie Avery teaches music full time in Whitehorse. She teaches private and group Suzuki lessons and is the coach of the Fiddleheads group. Before moving to Whitehorse, Katie lived in Toronto where she was a freelance musician, teacher and recording artist. She has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto and has register 6 units of Suzuki teacher training with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Katie’s school workshops are geared towards school who are establishing their own strings program. She offers expert advice on violin/fiddle technique and teaching points of repertoire.
